L'Amour au Féminin Project

 About “L'Amour au Féminin” Project

'L'Amour au Féminin' is the first chapter of my photo series about LOVE in Congolese society, a topic that really interests me as an artist but also as an African. The series questions various belief systems and stereotypes that have been engrained in our societies around LOVE and which we have adopted as the norm and have learnt to live with, whether we are comfortable or not.

'L'Amour au Féminin' deals with affection, tenderness and bravery, how do we show and express love as Congolese, whether it is between sisters, friends or lovers. In the society where personal space is not a thing, you often see women or men holding hands or sitting very close to each other and the line gets blurred as to whether the persons involved are just friends or whether they are in fact lovers?

In a country like Congo where homosexuality is not discussed, 'L'Amour au Féminin' scratches the surface by focusing on sisterhood, what lies beyond sexuality and what is LOVE?
